Serafino M. Aurigemma, O.S.A.

1883 – 1972 (August 6)

Carmine Aurigemma was born in Monteforte, Avellino, Italy, on April 4, 1883. He was received as a postulant by the Order’s Congregation of San Giovanni a Carbonara in October 1897, and entered the novitiate at the convent of Madonna del Buon Consiglio in Naples on April 5, 1898. He made his simple profession on April 9, 1899, taking the name Serafino, and solemn profession on February 2, 1904. He was ordained into the priesthood at the age of 22 on October 8, 1905, by Bishop Ernesto Angiulli, auxiliary bishop of Naples, in the chapel of Villa Driscoll in Naples.

Thomas Burns, O.S.A.

1831 – 1892 (August 5)

John Burns, the son of Thomas Burns and Mary Lovatt, was born in County Meath, Ireland, in 1831. He came to the United States, and was vested at Villanova on September 18, 1858, taking the name Brother Thomas. He made his novitiate at Villanova, and was professed on September 29, 1864.

Patrick J. Campbell, O.S.A.

1890 – 1969 (August 2)

Patrick J. Campbell, son of Patrick Campbell and Katherine Heney, was born in South Philadelphia on December 13, 1890. Among his siblings were three sisters who became members of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Patrick received his early education in South Philadelphia’s Sacred Heart Parochial School and Roman Catholic High School. After obtaining his bachelor degree at Saint Joseph’s College, he was received into the Order June 22, 1911, professed simple vows on June 22, 1912, and solemn vows on June 25, 1915. In September 1912 he was sent to Rome, but because of World War I he returned to the States to finish his theological education. He was ordained on May 17, 1916, in Philadlephia’s Cathedral by Archbishop Edmond Prendergast.

William K. Cornell , O.S.A.

1941 – 1976 (July 31)

William Kirby Cornell was born on Staten Island, New York, on May 18, 1941, to William Cornell and Mary Kirby, and received baptism at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church there five days later on May 23rd. He received his early education at the Augustinian parish school of Our Lady of Good Counsel and at Augustinian Academy. He entered the novitiate in New Hamburg, New York, on September 9, 1959 and professed simple vows on September 10, 1960.

William E. Farrell, O.S.A.

1924 – 1973 (July 30)

William Elmer Farrell was born in Rochester, New York on April 23, 1924 to James Farrell and Nora Burke. He graduated from Villanova in 1945 with a degree in Civil Engineering and entered the Navy’s V-12 program as an ensign after graduation. Following World War II, he worked as a civil engineer for several years before entering the Order in 1950. He made his novitiate at New Hamburg, New York, and professed simple vows on September 10, 1951.

John J. Barthouski, O.S.A.

1877 – 1957 (July 30)

John Joseph Barthouski, the son of Joseph Barthouski and Mary Ludwig, was born in Lebau, Prussia, on December 27, 1877. While still young, he immigrated to the United States with his family, and received his early education at Saint Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, New York. He entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania, in 1896, made his first profession of vows on May 4, 1897, and his solemn profession of June 7, 1900. Following studies, he was ordained to the priesthood at Villanova on January 19, 1901 by Auxiliary Bishop Edmond Prendergast.

John M. Fleming, O.S.A.

1862 – 1935 (July 29)

John Michael Fleming, son of Patrick Fleming and Mary O’Hara, was born near Dundas, Ontario, Canada on September 23, 1862. Following studies at the College of Saint Jerome in Berlin, Ontario, he entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1885, and made his simple profession of vows on May 4, 1886. He was solemnly professed on May 4, 1889, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 15th of the same year by Archbishop Patrick Ryan in the Philadelphia Cathedral.

Louis M. Diorio, O.S.A.

1907 – 1987 (July 29)

Louis M. Diorio was born on April 6, 1907, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Louis Diorio and Philomena Ciancia. He was educated in St. Rita and St. Colman’s Catholic schools and graduated from Villanova College in 1933. He professed first vows on September 11, 1930, and, after theological studies in Tolentino, Italy, was ordained to the priesthood there on July 12, 1936. After ordination, he continued graduate studies at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. 

Philip L. Colgan, O.S.A.

1886 – 1967 (July 29)

Philip Leo Colgan was born on April 10, 1886, in Conewago, Pennsylvana, to Francis Colgan and Elizabeth Dougherty. He was received into the novitiate at Villanova on June 25, 1910, and made his first profession on June 25, 1911. He was solemnly professed on the same day in 1914. After receivng his B.A. from Villanova College he continued on there for theological studies, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 1916.

William G. Gallimore, O.S.A.

1927 – 1986 (July 28)

William Gregory Gallimore was born to William Gallimore and Anna Cunningham on October 31, 1927 in Moorestown, New Jersey. He had two brothers and three sisters. His early education was in the parochial schools of Saint Cecilia in Pennsauken and Saint Peter in Merchantville, N.J., where his family resided. He attended Camden Catholic High School, graduating in 1945 and received a scholarship to Saint Joseph College in Philadelphia. His college education was interrupted by his enlistment in the Army in September 1946.
