Francis X. Boyle, O.S.A.

1911 – 1972 (October 22)

Francis Xavier Boyle, son of Daniel Boyle and Agnes Reily, was born in Philadelphia on October 10, 1911. He graduated from Augustinian Academy in 1928 and was received as a novice with his older brother, Joseph, on September 9, 1928. Together both brothers professed simple vows on September 10, 1929, graduated from Villanova College in 1933, made their solemn profession on September 10, 1932, and were ordained to the priesthood in Washington, DC, June 9, 1936, by Bishop John McNamara at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. They celebrated their first Solemn Masses at the Church of the Holy Ghost in Bethlehem, Pa. Father Francis received his M.A. in philosophy from Catholic University the next year.

Thomas J. Daley, O.S.A.

1889 – 1960 (October 21)

Thomas J. Daley was born in Kingston, New York, on September 15, 1889. He studied for the priesthood in the Diocese of Syracuse, and was ordained in Rome at the Lateran Basilica by Archbishop Palica on June 6, 1925. After serving the Chancery Office of his diocese, he was assigned to Saint John’s parish in Utica, N.Y. 

William G. Cullen, O.S.A.

1909 – 1968 (October 20)

William Gerard Cullen was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on June 3, 1909, to James Cullen and Cecilia Mullen. Because his father was in the United States Navy his early years were marked by a great deal of travel. Thus it was that Father Cullen entered the Order from San Diego, California. He was received into the novitiate on September 8, 1927, and made his simple profession on September 9, 1928, at Good Counsel Novitiate, New Hamburg, New York. He completed his studies at Villanova in June of 1932 and began his theological studies in Washington, D.C., at Augustinian College. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop James H. Ryan at the National Shrine on June 11, 1935.

Daniel P. Fogarty, O.S.A.
 

1887-1918 (October 18)

Daniel Paul Fogarty was one of ten children of Edward Fogarty, a farmer, and Catherine Mackey, his wife. Daniel and his brother, Thomas, became members of the Villanova Province, and two other brothers became diocesan priests.

Thomas B. Austin, O.S.A.

1889 – 1959 (October 17)

Thomas B. Austin was born in Joliet, Illinois, on August 29, 1889. He was the son of Thomas Austin, a farmer, and his wife Emma Tyrrell. Thomas received his primary school education in Joliet and in Chilicothe, Michigan. In 1909, he entered Saint Rita’s Hall at Villanova as a postulant and, three years later, became a novice on June 20, 1912. He professed first vows on June 20, 1913, and solemn vows on June 23, 1916. He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Dennis Dougherty at Saint Charles’ Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania on Pentecost Sunday, June 8, 1919.

Francis X. Campbell, O.S.A.

1916 – 1984 (October 13)


Francis Xavier Campbell was born to Winfield Campbell and Emma Neville in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 23, 1916. He attended Gesu Parochial School and graduated in 1934 from Roman Catholic High School. He entered the Maryknoll Society and studied philosophy at Maryknoll Apostolic College, Clarks Summit Pa., and theology at the Maryknoll Major Seminary in New York where he was ordained by Bishop James E. Walsh on June 10, 1945 for the archdiocese of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Father Campbell was assigned by his bishop to teach in the diocesan seminary of Santa Fe for the first five years of his ministry, then was assigned pastor at the Atomic Proving Ground at Los Alamos. 
In 1954, Father Campbell requested entrance into our Order, and professed first vows on September 10, 1955, and solemn vows on September 10, 1958.

James P. Curran, O.S.A.

1858 – 1901 (October 12)

James Patrick Curran, son of John Curran and Anna Louise Murphy, was born in Milford, Massachusetts on March 10, 1858. He entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1882, and professed vows on July 4, 1883. He made his solemn profession on July 5, 1886. James was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Patrick Ryan at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on November 17, 1887.

Donald J. Ammering, O.S.A.

1915 – 1989 (October 12)

Donald John Ammering was born on November 14, 1915, in Rochester, New York, to John J. Ammering and Maud Shoen. He had three sisters and two brothers, one of whom became a priest with the diocese of Rochester. Baptized in Holy Family Church, his early education was in the parochial schools of Saints Peter and Paul, and Saint Monica, from which he graduated in 1919. In 1934 he graduated from West High School in Rochester and worked for a year in the local post office.

John F. Dorgan, O.S.A.

1893 – 1918 (October 11)

John Francis Dorgan was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on October 17, 1893, to John A. Dorgan, a machinist, and his wife, Mary Kerins. John studied at the local parochial school and at Lawrence High School, and entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1916. He was professed on June 24, 1917.

Thomas Galberry, O.S.A.

1833 – 1878 (October 10)

Thomas Galberry, son of Thomas Galberry and Margaret Byrnes, was born in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland on May 28, 1833. His family immigrated to the United States in 1836 and settled in Philadelphia where Thomas studied classics at Villanova College from 1847 to 1851. He entered the novitiate in January, 1852 and made solemn profession on January 4, 1853.
